1. AUBADE (Pagen) Instrumental HM - guitar; RP - guitar
2. HOPE (Pagen) RP - guitars, bass, vocals
Can anyone see me, along upon the hill? The snow is falling down like I hoped it would. And I've been wondering just how far we'll go. Someday solitude like this might be hard to know. Silence is a gift, like troubles and time. It focuses the soul and it clears the mind. But how did quantity become the measure of choice? The noise if more deafening with each new voice. Can anyone see me up here? I'm alone, I'm alone and I've been thinking that things might change, and I hope they will.
3. SALTY EARTH (Mattingly) HM - guitars, harmonica, vocals; RP - bass
Here I spy cobblestone, turn my tongue white as a bone, pass your fields and old fence rows, coyotes and old black crows. Here I spy another stone, turn my tongue dry as a bone, twisted trees full of thorns, growing in a land forlorn. Salty sea, salty sand, salty earth, here I stand. Now I spy an old homestead, skeleton of the life they led, broken down by the big machine, victims of the love of green. Salty sea, salty sand, salty earth, here I stand. Now I see the old home place, reminder of the odds we face, in the vice with the two ton grip, going down like a sinking ship. Salty sea, salty sand, salty earth, here we stand.
4. LA RANURA (Pagen) Instrumental RP - guitars
5. I HEAR YOUR VOICE (Mattingly) HM - guitar, vocals
They say you are not here, and still I hear your voice on every hill. The rose that by the arbor springs the fragrance of your spirit brings. Your song is poured from out the throat of every bird that sings a note. They say you are not here, and still I hear your voice on every hill. No brook that laughs but tells your mirth, like rain your tears refresh the earth. In eyes grown old but still that grow with love that only age can know. They say you are not here, and still I hear your voice on every hill.
6. MVP (Pagen) Instrumental RP - guitars, bass
7. OUT OF THE COLD (Mattingly) HM - guitar, vocals; RP - guitar, bass
Got a friend up in Red Wing, Minnesota way. She had herself a good thing, but she throwed it away. She moved down to Winona, but she found it just the same. Summer's always fading fast, winter's on its way. Out in the cold. Pull me in I'm getting old, out of the cold. Got a brother up in Ely, he's country country all the way. I ain't no touchy feely, but I can still hear him say. When winter rolls around, he straps his snowshoes on, he's checking his traps all down the line, he's doing fine out in the cold. Pull me in, I'm getting old, out of the cold. Granny's up in Two Harbors, she's running all the time, she's got to make Duluth by about half past nine. She ain't but 52, and she's out there everyday. She's training for the big one, the marathon way. Out in the cold. Pull me in, I'm getting old. Driving north on Highway 61, all the doing I ever did has done gone and come undone. It unravels before me, state to state, down the line. I miss her so badly, it happens every time. Out in the cold, pull me in, I'm getting old. To your loving arms, please baby hold me, out of the cold.
8. A REASON FOR IT (Mattingly) HM - guitar, vocals
I can't seem to find a reason for it, I can't seem to find a reason. I can't seem to find it, I can't seem to find it, talk about life, talk about living. I looked all over for it, I looked up and down for it. I looked all around for it, I just can't seem to ignore it. Can't seem to find it, can't seem to find it, talk about life, talk about living.
9. IT’S ALL BEHIND ME (Mattingly) HM - guitars, percussion, lead vocals; RP - bass, percussion, harmony vocals
Driving through the country in my beat up truck, it's all behind me now. I've got lots of good friends, lots of good luck, it's all behind me now. It's all behind me now, I made it through somehow, it's all behind me. I'm in southern Indiana, I'll be home soon, it's all behind me now. I'll be crossing the river with the rising of the moon, it's all behind me now. It's all behind me now, I made it through somehow, it's all behind me. I'm gonna camp out in the woods, swim in the creek, it's all behind me now. I'm gonna play my guitar every day of the week, it's all behind me now. It's all behind me now, I made it through somehow, it's all behind me.
10. THE SIDE (Pagen) RP - guitars, bass, lead and harmony vocals; HM - harmony vocals
If I opened up my eyes, would I see you? Would I see through your disguise, want to be you? Life is only temporary, you know what I know and it’s true. And I understand, you must think me mad, because I held your hand and now I drop it to the side. If I had one life to live, would I live it? If I had the world to give, would I give it? Life is only temporary, you now what I know and it’s true. And I understand, you must think me mad, because I held your hand and now I drop it to the side.
11. SOLDIER PINES (Mattingly) HM - guitars, vocals; RP - bass
Derek and Micah lived by me in the trailer park, sometimes when the day grew dark, we'd slip out through the sand. Needles and cones in my hand, this place I understand better than I know. I grew up by the Old Plank Road, these woods belong to St. Joe, he bought 'em up a long time ago. But I camped out there on his land, and this place I understand, and wherever I go there's soldier pines in the back of my mind, that time was so darn fine. We got the St. Marks River flowing off through the woods, getting in a hurry never done a lot of good, floating downstream just taking my time. Living with the soldiers, with the soldiers, we were living with the soldier pines in the back of my mind. Now I live in a midwest town, concrete covers up the ground whenever I walk around. Then some sweet smell, some sight or sound, reaches in and brings me 'round to my Apalachee home with the soldier pines in the back of my mind. That time was hands down fine. We got the St. Marks River flowing off through the woods, getting in a hurry never done a lot of good, floating downstream just taking my time. Living with the soldiers, with the soldiers, we were living with the soldier pines in the back of my mind.
12. FLITS AND SALLIES (Pagen) Instrumental RP - guitars, bass, percussion
13. HONEYDEW (Mattingly) HM - rhythm guitar, vocals; RP - lead guitar, bass, drums
Tell me you're sweetenin', tell me you do, and I'll love you honeydew. Starlight and daydreams fill my eyes, but I'll never say these compromise my loving you. Tell me your troubles, I'll tell you mine, and I'll love you all the time. I know you'll hurt me, and bring me pain, but I'll love you just the same. Starlight and daydreams fill my eyes, but I'll never say these compromise my loving you. Tell me you're sweetenin', tell me you do, and I'll love you honeydew. Tell me you love me, I'll hit the sky, and I'll love you when we fly. Starlight and daydreams fill my eyes, and don't let me overanalyze my loving you. You are my honeydew.
14. SILKIE (Traditional) Instrumental HM - guitar; RP - guitar, bass; Gina Mattingly - flute
15. AN INSANE WISH? (Pagen) Instrumental RP - guitars, bass
16. APART (Pagen) RP - guitar, vocals; HM - harmonica
I saw you from afar, I don't know who you are. A silhouette beneath the stars, tell me do you find it hard? The only thing I find that's hard, the only thing is knowing that we might fall apart someday.
